Let your child’s creativity take flight! In this whimsical hands-on class, kids will design and decorate their very own paper wind art pieces using colorful cardstock, patterns, and paint. THE BUTTERFLIES ARE BACK!

Join us for one of the most magical family events of the summer! Monarch butterflies will take flight in a spectacular live release—and some of these butterflies are truly extraordinary.

In partnership with Wings Rising, a local nonprofit dedicated to monarch butterfly preservation, and Washington State University, selected monarchs will be released wearing tiny, trackable tags as part of the Adopt a Monarch program. After the event, you'll be able to follow their incredible migration journey from North Idaho all the way to Mexico using your smartphone.

The Mighty Monarchs, a local nonprofit dedicated to monarch conservation, will be onsite sharing their knowledge about the challenges facing Western Monarchs and the importance of protecting their habitat. Families can enjoy free, kid-friendly activities while learning how they can help support these incredible pollinators. The Nature Conservancy will also be joining us to support this important conservation initiative, sharing more about their efforts to protect monarch habitats and preserve the natural spaces these butterflies depend on.

This special morning is designed for children of all ages and their families. Katie, Youth Services Librarian from the Hayden Community Library, will lead an engaging Story Time in the Garden beneath the trees before the butterfly release.

The fun continues throughout the garden! Kids will get to create a colorful butterfly wind spinner to take home and enjoy (sponsored by Lil’ Sprouts Garden Club), Shimmer Shack CDA will be here creating magical face-painting designs, and BP Doodles will be capturing smiles with custom caricature artwork. Be sure to snap a photo and make a memory in front of our beautiful butterfly backdrop!

To make the day even sweeter, Pascendi’s Italian Ice will be serving refreshing shaved ice, including special event flavors alongside their customer favorites. Plus, The Sugaree will be joining us with their delicious fairy floss — spun with organic sugar, made with certified organic flavors, and completely free of dyes. If you're looking for something savory, Hey Bear Food Cart will also be onsite serving up hot dogs and refreshing lemonade, making it easy to grab a bite while you enjoy the festivities.

Nothing beats a magical summer evening at New Leaf Nursery, where nature meets art. CULTURA will be here serving authentic Mexican street food with a spin. From trompo-fired al pastor & carne asada to Baja fish tacos, loaded fries & homemade aguas frescas, every plate is built on bold flavor and real hospitality.

We’re kicking off the series with THE POLLINATORS — a Pacific Northwest band performing a mix of covers and original tunes. The Pollinators were created by three members of the national touring act Paper Flowers “Remembering Fleetwood Mac” as a fun way to pass the time when not on the road. They play an eclectic mix of music that ranges from Elvis to Lady Gaga and everything in between. You’ll hear rock, pop, funk, soul and country with the focus being predominantly on hits from the 70’s, 80’s MTV classics & 90’s.

Get Bzzed About Pollinators! While you’re here, stop by and chat with our plant specialists about the important role pollinators play in the garden. Learn which plants attract and support bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other beneficial pollinators, and discover simple ways to create a thriving, pollinator-friendly landscape at home.

Over the last 49 years, The CDA Garden Club has hosted this event, introducing local gardens to the community. You’ll create two 9x12 botanical compositions using vibrant, colorful flowers and a little bit of muscle. This process is so much fun (and yes… a little loud), resulting in beautiful, one-of-a-kind prints.

New Leaf plant specialist, Jen, has spent most of her life learning the care and maintenance of plants! This class teaches an introduction to the basics of general pruning, along with which tools are needed to create fullness and promote growth on your plants, and will share tips on how to prolong the life of your tools. Jen will also share her knowledge of when and how to prune to encourage growth and prevent disease in your garden fruit trees. Participants in the class will receive a 10% discount coupon off one pruning tool. This class will be taught in our garden center barn. You can enter through the double doors on the North side of the barn.

Get to the root of healthy, thriving plants by focusing on what matters most—soil. During this FREE hands-on experience at 11 AM and 1 PM, we’ll break down the essentials for growing stronger, more vibrant plants in your garden. You’ll also learn what the pros use—and what sets different products apart.

We’ll also cover soil structure, drainage, and the role of organic matter in supporting strong plant growth. This class will be taught by an Organic Gardening Educator from Kellogg Garden Products—the makers of the G&B organic soils we proudly carry here at the nursery—bringing expert insight straight from the source.

Celebrate Mother’s Day with a creative experience that’s as meaningful as it is beautiful. In this special workshop, you’ll create a trio of herb kokedamas—Japanese moss-wrapped living planters that blend natural elegance with functional garden charm.

You’ll learn the art of forming and wrapping kokedamas using soil, moss, and twine, then plant three fragrant herbs to take home. Holly Vesterby of Wylde Bloems will guide you step-by-step through the process, sharing tips on shaping, wrapping, watering, and caring for your kokedamas so they thrive long after the class.

This trio makes a thoughtful handmade gift for Mom—or a relaxing way to treat yourself while creating something truly special. Students will also make a handmade pressed flower card to attach to their kokedamas, adding an extra personal touch. Display them together on a tray, hang them, or scatter them throughout your kitchen or garden space. A perfect blend of creativity, greenery, and love—just in time for Mother’s Day!

Celebrate Mom with a gift that grows! In this fun and hands-on workshop, kids will create their very own miniature terrarium inside a charming mason jar. Little gardeners will learn how to layer soil, rocks, and plants to build a tiny world of nature they can take home and proudly gift to that special Mom in their life.

Each child will personalize their terrarium with decorations and a sweet gift tag—perfect for Mother’s Day or to brighten anyone’s day!

We will be hosting six, 30 minute sessions, with a maximum of 10 kids per session starting at 11:00 AM, with the last session ending at 2:00 PM. This activity is ideal for kids 5-12 years of age and older. All materials will be included. The finished project will be made in a mason jar with a vertical design. Tomato season is near! We expect to have many many varieties of tomatoes for you to choose from in the nursery again this season including heirlooms, along with all your favorites. Jen will share her knowledge of the art of growing and supporting tomatoes in the Inland Northwest, along with the proper care, and maintenance of the plants in order to provide you with a full growing season of luscious fruit!

It’s time to proudly display those hanging porch baskets folks! In this class, New Leaf plant specialist, Jen will supply each student with a metal hanging basket, designed for outdoor use, lined with a coir liner, soil and 5 plants to place in the basket. Additional basket styles are available for purchase at the nursery, and if additional plants are desired, they can be purchased at the nursery during the class. Every student is responsible to provide their own garden gloves. A potting station area will be provided at the nursery.

Arbor Day originated in 1872 when J. Sterling Morton proposed a day to plant trees. The holiday is now celebrated in many countries around the world. North Idaho College has partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation and will be distributing seedlings of Water Birch and Western White Pine.

Learn the art of beading beautiful ‘jewelry’ for your walls and patios! Linda Hagen Miller with Northwest Spindrift is a local artist and creator of driftwood art. Over the past five years, Linda has created pieces for local craft fairs, galleries, garden shops, and as well as her Etsy store.

All materials are included in the cost of the class (approximate size of either piece is 7-8” wide x 7-8” long). Photos are examples of styling and size of finished art. Some changes in bead style and wood branch may occur due to availability.

Our annual Easter Egg Hunt is intended for kids 3-12 years old. We will have six Easter egg hunt times, all held every hour, and there will be a time limit; a maximum of 10 eggs is allowed per child. At the end of the egg hunt, kids will be able to turn in their eggs and receive a bag of treats! We will allow 100 kids at a time per egg hunt. If there’s a specific hunt time you want, we encourage you to arrive early. There is no guarantee that you will get that time, but the hunts are scheduled an hour apart. We will have lots of fun and activities to keep the whole family entertained!

Please bring your own baskets, or we have some available for purchase in the barn. Parents are encouraged to spend time with their kids during the hunting! Please sign up below with the amount of children in your party.
