HERBALICIOUS

Spring is finally around the corner—and we’re kicking off the new season with herbs!

Join us as we celebrate the opening of the season at New Leaf Nursery by exploring our newest and largest selection of herbs. We’ll have all the supplies you need for planting, plus our knowledgeable herb specialists on site to answer any and all of your questions—from selecting the right herbs to planting and care tips. PLUS, plant specialist Jen will be on site on Saturday at 10 AM sharing how to use fresh herbs in cooking, and again at 3 PM to talk about herbal teas. You’ll even have the chance to taste them!

There’s still plenty of time to get your herbs started, and they can be planted in the ground after the first frost. Until then, they’re happy growing indoors near a sunny window, where they’ll get plenty of light. Come get inspired, enjoy the start of a new growing season, and stock up on fresh, flavorful herbs for the months ahead.

We’ll have a wonderful selection of herbs available for purchase, including: Borage; Chives; Cilantro; Dill; Lavender (Alba, Gros Bleu, Grosso ‘Fat Spike,’ Hidcote Giant, Sensational); Golden Marjoram; Spearmint Mint; Dark Leaf Oregano; Italian Parsley; Rosemary (Arp, Tuscan Blue); Sage (Berggarten, Growers Friend Garden); French Sorrel; Thyme (Lemon/Gold Variegated, Lime, Narrow Leaf French).

We love having little ones at the nursery — there’s nothing better than watching a new generation grow up surrounded by trees, soil, and ladybugs! Join us for Story Time in the Garden, a special event designed for children ages 4-10. The Youth Services Librarian, Katie from the Hayden Community Library will lead story time under the trees, followed by snacks and a sweet garden-themed gift for each child, courtesy of New Leaf Nursery. And because every good story deserves a treat, Pascendi Ice will be here serving up special flavors made just for the event, plus all their fan-favorite flavors!

This session will be extra special! On Wednesday, August 12, we’ll be joined by Wings Rising, a local nonprofit dedicated to sustaining the growth of monarch butterflies here in North Idaho. Susan will share fascinating facts about these vital pollinators — and best of all — we’ll witness the release of live monarch butterflies into the garden!

It’s a magical experience for young nature lovers and the young at heart. We encourage you to invite friends and family to join in the wonder. As a thank-you to our Seed Reward Members, children in attendance will also receive a limited-edition Monarch sticker to take home.

Susan will also have small milkweed plants available for purchase at the nursery after the release—these are a favorite of monarch butterflies. Just imagine welcoming these stunning pollinators into your own garden!

Last year’s event was a huge success! This year, we’ll have even more butterfly houses so every child can enjoy the experience. We encourage families to arrive early for the best seating. To help ensure all children can participate, we kindly ask that seating be reserved for kids, with parents standing nearby.
