Our Holiday Open House Starts Tomorrow!
Set your sights on Christmas trees and hot chocolate by the fire this weekend at New Leaf Nursery! The decorations are up, there's (almost) snow on the ground—now all we need is good friends and community gathered 'round! Christmas presents are nice, but being with our community is the best gift of all! Please plan to join us at our Annual Holiday Open House tomorrow, December 1 and Saturday, December 2 from 12:00-7:30 PM.
Shop early for the very best Christmas trees, holiday decorations, centerpieces, gifts, ornaments, and oh so many lighted holiday décor pieces, along with carefully curated gardening gifts! All Seeds Club Rewards members will EARN DOUBLE REWARDS on everything purchased that day, plus an additional 25% off one Holiday item in the barn (excluding Christmas trees, consignment vendors and discount items). While you’re shopping, we invite you to join us in the garden center barn where refreshments and holiday treats will be served from 12:00–7:30 PM, and wine will be poured from 5:30-7:30 PM. Our special guest, The Sugaree, will be here spinning up their gourmet flavored organic cotton candy—dye free with no artificial flavors!
We have fresh and artificial wreaths, poinsettias and garlands, Christmas cactus, and the garden center barn is filled with holiday cheer! With winter and Christmas on the horizon, it’s the perfect time to get in the holiday spirit!
If you prefer a fashionable alternative to poinsettias this year, local grower, Holly Vesterby with Wylde Bloems has dropped off Amaryllis to brighten your home for the holidays! Amaryllis have become increasingly popular Christmas plants due to their willingness to bloom indoors in winter, producing bright, colorful flowers.
SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN! He’ll be with us Friday, December 1st from 3:00-7:00 PM, and Saturday December 2nd from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM. Come take FREE family selfies with the Jolly Old Elf and enjoy some holiday treats!
We are also excited to announce that we’ve got a special surprise up our sleeves! Our lovely friend Dana Singer with The Charm Barn, who provided the wonderful horses for our Fall Festival, will be bringing some ponies for your kids to get ‘up close’ with. What amazing Christmas photos these will be! You’ll be able to meet them on Saturday, December 2 from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM!
Should you decide to join us in the evening, you will see our barn Christmas lights illuminating the season with sparkle. With each twinkle of the lights, the holiday spirit comes alive, and by the glow of the fire pit, you’ll find warmth, love, and the spirit of the season from all of us here at New Leaf!

This year we have partnered with the Make-A-Wish Idaho Foundation. Michelle John, Regional Manager at Make-A-Wish Idaho, will be here at the Nursery both Friday, December 1st and Saturday, December 2nd with her Magic Jar accepting donations for the children of Idaho. If you’ve already bought a tree, THANK YOU! A percentage of every Christmas tree sale will be donated to this foundation! If you’re here picking up a fresh wreath, holiday shopping, or you’ve come for a jolly ole’ time, you can still support the Make-A-Wish Idaho Foundation by donating this holiday season!

The nursery has been buzzing this past week, and if you’ve been by, you’ve seen all the beautiful décor, and stunning Christmas trees we have this year! The scent of fresh cut trees is unrivaled, and by just walking through one of our greenhouses brimming with trees, you’ll see what we mean. And yes, we really do have spinning Christmas trees on display! Come see for yourself!
We have the very best selection of regionally grown, fresh cut Christmas trees, as well as living Christmas trees. Swing by soon to get one for yourself, your office, your church, or a friend. The hot chocolate will be flowing, and you can hear Christmas songs playing throughout the nursery grounds!

Winter Gardening—An Oasis in the Midst of Snow and Ice!
Winter brings a different kind of beauty to the landscape—shades of gray and white abound. Gardeners who thrive with color will be happy to hear that when spring comes again, there are plenty of options to bring year round color to their landscape!
Holly has always been associated with winter. Some, like winterberry, lose their leaves in the fall, letting the bright red berries stand out. Plus the birds will appreciate the berries when other food is hard to come by. Fall is a good time to plant holly—keep in mind that it’s the female holly plants that produce the berries, so make sure you get the right ones.
Speaking of berries, Firethorn is a hardy perennial that’s attractive all year long. It has small clusters of white flowers in the spring, against glossy green leaves, and the yellow, orange and red berries remain through winter as food for the birds. When you’re planting Firethorn, you will want to make sure you choose the location carefully, since it does have sharp thorns.
Winter Heather, officially called Erica Carnea, is a great winter plant in the home landscape. It has little flowers from spring to fall, and thick foliage that lasts through the winter for a touch of green. When most plants are hibernating, you can always still rely on Winter Heather to bring some color to your garden, even if it’s snowing.
Witch Hazel, an unusual winter plant for both color and texture, has long been known for its fragrance and medicinal properties. The winding, twisted branches add a pleasant touch to winter landscapes, and it has orangish blossoms that appear in late winter and early spring, adding the perfect pop of color and interest.
Snowdrops are one of the first flowers of the new year, showing up weeks before crocuses, often poking through a layer of snow. Their milky white blooms grow from bulbs that need to be planted in the fall. Since the flowers are small, you’ll want to plant quite a few to get a dramatic effect.
Red Twig Dogwood is another winter favorite. After the leaves are gone, this plant has striking red stems and branches that really catch the eye, especially against dark evergreens or a snowy landscape. If you want garden color all year long, this winter wonder shrub is a must have.

She brings the most unique and innovative ideas to New Leaf Nursery, and her most recent work can be seen in our garden center barn, where the magic of Christmas comes alive! You’ll find yourself captivated by the enchanting beauty of six Christmas trees, each one with it’s own story. The joy of the seasons are reflected in her work, and we are beyond lucky to have her as part of our New Leaf crew!
