Welcome to a new year at New Leaf Nursery!
For all of you who read our newsletter, visit our website, and visit our garden center and nursery, you all have a sentimental attachment to gardening, and your garden, in particular. Every winter, we gardeners, count down the days til once again, we can get our gardening shoes, and hats, and out to the garden we go, tools in hand, and hats on heads, ready to take on the challenge ahead! We spend the better part of the winter thinking about what we can do in that blank patch against the fence, studying the ways we can help protect our pollinators, or how we can add more year round color to the front walk. We stare at the photos of our gardens from earlier in the year, and dream of the day they look like that again!
The joy of witnessing something beautiful spring from a simple seed or bulb can be almost euphoric for those of us who are gardeners. There is a sense of peace in our spirits as we think ahead to the happy days we will spend again in our garden. Seeing the bulbs we planted in the fall, bloom into spectacular tulips, narcissus, and hyacinth, is almost a miracle. And, as the perennials return, the garden breathes new life, not only into itself, but into us as well!
GOOD NEWS!
Good news is what we love to bring you, and here’s the insider scoop!
Traditionally we have opened in early April, but since you are calling and sneaking in around closed gates, we decided to officially open for the 2022-2023 season on Friday, March 4th at 9:00am!
We are receiving 2-3 truckloads of trees and shrubs every week, and in the next few weeks—weather permitting—the annuals and perennials will begin to arrive.
This year, another great news item, is we are planting our own beautiful garden baskets, brimming with gorgeous colors. Watch the website in the next few weeks on how to reserve yours, and the availability of vibrant color combinations!
WHAT’S NEW?
The season starts out with the barn loaded with new products for gardening and home decoration, as well as pottery, hanging baskets and garden tools, door mats that will make you giggle, silk flowers that will brighten any room, beautiful soaps and lotions from wonderful Kew Gardens just outside London (www.kew.org) stunningly beautiful wind chimes, and the most amazing selection of seeds you’ve ever seen!
SEED STARTING
Seeds, trays, tags, soils, and amendments can be found inside the garden center…now is the time to start your seeds for a great summer harvest! We have all you need to get your project started!
FRUIT TREES
Some of you may have been waiting patiently on the ‘wish list’ for the tree you weren’t able to get last season! If you did sign up, you will get a call when your variety arrives at the nursery. Trucks are coming every day! Once you get the call, simply pay for the tree, and if you like, come pick out your tree, we will label it, and we will house it for you in our greenhouse, to protect it from the freeze, and it will be ready for you to pick up generally around the 2nd week of May. And…if you didn’t sign up, and you want a tree, we suggest you order your tree on line by the middle of March to guarantee that you will receive it. As with last year, the supply chain issues remain, and it looks like it will be another challenging year for the nursery industry too!

SPECIAL VARIETIES
Our buyers are ‘plant detectives,’ working long and hard to find the newest, and most unusual varieties of plants and flowers to bring to you at New Leaf Nursery! Every year, the growers introduce new varieties, in various color ranges and sizes, as well as newly hybridized versions of old favorites. If you shop our greenhouses and nursery regularly, you will see these plants as they arrive. Our trucks come two and three times a week, sometimes more, so visiting the nursery on a regular basis allows you the opportunity to see the new things first! We have a helpful and friendly staff who are happy to be of service to you!
