August in Bloom

August is Blooming Big at New Leaf!

Can you believe it’s August? The days are long on sunshine and summer is far from over! Here at the nursery, this is one of our favorite times of the year. The colors are beautiful, the garden is full of pollinators, and there’s still so much to plant, enjoy, and learn.

Whether you’re sprucing up your landscape, refreshing your houseplant collection, or getting a head start on fall planting — we’re here to help you dig in.

Need a Late-Summer Color Boost?

Now is the perfect time to enhance your landscape with a pop of vibrant color — and you’ll thank yourself next year when that gorgeous color reappears. Planting in August gives roots time to establish before the cooler weather rolls in, so your garden will be even stronger next year.

We’re fully stocked with a beautiful selection of heat-loving and fall-friendly favorites:

  • Burning Bushes – Their fiery red foliage in fall is a showstopper.

  • Coneflowers & Rudbeckia – Tough, colorful, and loved by bees and butterflies.

  • Ornamental Grasses – Add motion and texture with plumes that glow in late summer light.

  • Balloon Flowers, Phlox, Russian Sage & More – Unique blooms and pollinator favorites!

Come explore the possibilities! Talk with our great crew of garden specialists who can suggest the right plants for your space.

Story Time in the Garden —

Featuring a Live Butterfly Release!

There’s something magical about seeing little ones light up while learning in the garden — and this month’s Story Time in the Garden is sure to be unforgettable!

Designed for children ages 4-10, this special event includes story time under the trees led by Katie from Hayden Community Library. After the stories, kids can enjoy a light snack and receive a garden-themed gift courtesy of New Leaf Nursery.

What makes this Story Time extra special?
We’ll be joined by Susan Burke of Wings Rising, a local nonprofit working to protect and grow the monarch butterfly population in North Idaho. Susan will share fun and educational facts about these beloved pollinators — and then we’ll gather together to witness a live monarch butterfly release right here in the garden!

Susan will also have small milkweed plants available for purchase at the nursery after the release—these are a favorite of monarch butterflies. Just imagine welcoming these stunning pollinators into your own garden!

This heartwarming experience is FREE to attend, and we’d love for you to bring friends and family along. Plus, as a thank-you to our Lil’ Sprouts Garden Club, each child will receive a limited-edition Monarch sticker to take home.

KREM2 News stopped by Friday morning to shine a spotlight on the event and share the leafy fun with their viewers! We were thrilled to showcase one of our favorite weekends of the year — and we’re so grateful to everyone who came out to join us.
