Lil’ Sprouts Seed Starting Workshop (Free Class)

Come spend the early part of Valentine’s Day with your little sweethearts! In this hands-on class, kids will learn how seeds wake up and turn into the plants we love. We’ll explore different types of seeds, talk about what plants need to thrive, and plant our very own flower starter pots to take home and nurture.

Through fun, simple activities, children will discover:

  • Where seeds come from

  • How roots and leaves grow

  • Why sunlight and water matter

  • How to care for their seedlings at home

Perfect for curious kids who love to learn, dig, and get a little messy! Let’s grow something amazing—one tiny seed at a time!

Please note that the nursery is closed to the public until March 1, 2026. All February classes are held in the barn and are weather dependent. Parking details will be emailed to you one to two days prior to class.

Grow Your Own Rainbow (Free Class)

Let’s turn gardening into magic! In this class, young gardeners will explore planting veggies using a rainbow of vibrant & healthy veggies. Each child will plant their very own rainbow garden from seeds, including radishes, carrots, yellow cherry tomatoes, and purple bell peppers.

Along the way, we’ll learn what plants need to grow, discover how different colors in nature help our gardens and wildlife, and get hands-on with soil, seeds, and creativity. Kids will head home with their planted rainbow to care for and to watch it grow!

In this fun and meaningful class, kids will let their creativity shine as they paint inspiring words, cheerful designs, and friendly messages onto smooth garden stones. Once their masterpieces are finished, children can choose to keep their kindness stones—or place them somewhere in the community to brighten someone’s day with a surprise act of kindness!

This hands-on activity encourages:

Perfect for young artists who love to make a difference! Join us for a class full of color, kindness, and smiles!

Join Us for a Fun and Educational Event!

New Leaf Nursery invites you and your little ones to this much loved annual event at the nursery!  Let them discover the fun of planting their berries, and the joy of growing their own food! During this FREE EVENT, the first 1,000 kids will receive their very own strawberry plant to pot and take home. Hands-on activities will take place in Greenhouse 2, where children can learn about planting, nurturing, and the importance of fresh, homegrown produce.

Join us for a fun and inspiring session as we nurture a love for nature and explore the importance of a greener, more sustainable future. Together, we'll spark curiosity, grow environmental awareness, and sow the seeds of appreciation for the world around us. Celebrate Mom with a gift that grows! In this fun and hands-on workshop, kids will create their very own miniature terrarium inside a charming mason jar. Little gardeners will learn how to layer soil, rocks, and plants to build a tiny world of nature they can take home and proudly gift to that special Mom in their life.

Each child will personalize their terrarium with decorations and a sweet gift tag—perfect for Mother’s Day or to brighten anyone’s day!

We will be hosting six, 30 minute sessions, with a maximum of 10 kids per session starting at 11:00 AM, with the last session ending at 2:00 PM. This activity is ideal for kids 5-12 years of age and older. All materials will be included. The finished project will be made in a mason jar with a vertical design. Story Time in the Nursery with Hayden Library: Featuring a Live Butterfly Release! (Free Event)

We love having little ones at the nursery — there’s nothing better than watching a new generation grow up surrounded by trees, soil, and ladybugs! Join us for Story Time in the Garden, a special event designed for children ages 4-10. The Youth Services Librarian, Katie from the Hayden Community Library will lead story time under the trees, followed by snacks and a sweet garden-themed gift for each child, courtesy of New Leaf Nursery.

This session will be extra special! On Wednesday, August 12, we’ll be joined by Wings Rising, a local nonprofit dedicated to sustaining the growth of monarch butterflies here in North Idaho. Susan will share fascinating facts about these vital pollinators — and best of all — we’ll witness the release of live monarch butterflies into the garden!

It’s a magical experience for young nature lovers and the young at heart. We encourage you to invite friends and family to join in the wonder. As a thank-you to our Seed Reward Members, children in attendance will also receive a limited-edition Monarch sticker to take home.

Susan will also have small milkweed plants available for purchase at the nursery after the release—these are a favorite of monarch butterflies. Just imagine welcoming these stunning pollinators into your own garden!

Last year’s event was a huge success! This year, we’ll have even more butterfly houses so every child can enjoy the experience. We encourage families to arrive early for the best seating. To help ensure all children can participate, we kindly ask that seating be reserved for kids, with parents standing nearby.

Sleigh Rides & Santa
We are so happy to have our loveable and kind Santa with us again this season! Santa arrives from the North Pole around noon and his ‘flight’ back is around 6:00 PM. We are also happy to welcome Molly and her team with Glow Up Photo Booth, who will be here from 3-6 PM. She has created a great offer to New Leaf customers for a professional 4”x6” photo, presented in a folder, of your family with Santa for $9.99. Extra photos can be purchased. Photos will be ready to take home the day of the event, or you are welcome to snap a free selfie with Santa if you wish.

Have you seen Santa’s sleigh? Rides will begin around noon and the last ride is at 5:45 PM on the event day. One of Santa’s elves will be your driver on this trip through the nursery to look at holiday lights. The ride is free! But dress warm…it’s sure to be a chilly evening!

FREE KID'S CLASS: Paint Your Own Flower Pot

In this fun and hands-on class, kids will get to decorate their very own flower pot using colorful paints and fun designs. Perfect for all ages, this class encourages self-expression and artistic flair. But the fun doesn't stop there! Once their pots are beautifully decorated, each child will receive a free annual plant to pot inside their creation. Whether your child loves bold patterns, whimsical scenes, or bright splashes of color, this class is the perfect way for them to explore their imagination and create something they’ll cherish.

In this class, your kiddos will dive into the world of pollinators and learn how to plant a special garden designed just for them. They’ll discover how to choose the right plants that attract bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinator friends, as well as how to care for these plants to keep the garden thriving. Along the way, they’ll gain hands-on experience with planting and get a closer look at how these amazing creatures help flowers bloom, fruits and vegetables grow, and ecosystems stay balanced. Not only will they be creating a beautiful and buzzing garden to take home with them, but they’ll also be making a real difference in supporting the health of our environment. This class is a perfect mix of fun, learning, and meaningful action for nature!

Oh how we love kids at the nursery! A new generation is growing up surrounded by trees and plants, soil and lady bugs!  In partnership with Hayden Community Library Network, we are hosting Story Time in the Garden. Bring your preschool and kindergarteners to the nursery to enjoy a fun time listening to stories read by the Youth Services Librarian from Hayden Community Library! Enjoy snack type refreshments and each child in attendance will leave with a special gift from New Leaf Nursery.

From blooming flower displays and charming garden art, to photos with the Easter Bunny and the thrill of our Easter Egg Hunt, where little ones can embark on an adventure to find colorful treasures nestled within the greenery!

Discover one of a kind, hand crafted items from local artisans, and indulge in delectable treats and delicious eats from local food vendors—from irresistible waffles and delicate crepes to comforting cinnamon rolls, and that perfectly brewed cup of coffee, there will be an array of breakfast options to kick start your day. But that’s not all! We will have children's crafts and bounce houses, face painting, and pony rides, plus a fresh variety of spring plants and gorgeous spring and early summer home and garden decorations—offerings to keep the entire family entertained!

Calling all little gardeners! Do you love pizza? Imagine growing the toppings yourself! In this hands-on, FREE kids event, they will learn how to plant herbs and veggies like basil, tomatoes, oregano and onions that are perfect for making delicious homemade pizza.

We’ll have fun with soil, seeds, and creativity while learning about how plants grow. Every child will leave with their own mini pizza garden to take home. Let’s dig in and grow something amazing together!

Using provided materials, you’ll craft a decorative accent that doubles as a much-needed food source for birds when resources are scarce. Join us for a fun and creative way to welcome the season and give back to nature! (One kid per parent sign up please).

Please bring a glue gun, a few glue sticks, a pair of wire cutters and a pair of scissors to the class.
