The home is set on historic land on Sherman Avenue, arguably one of the prettiest streets in Coeur d’Alene. In 1904, the J.C. White House was built on this land. In 2019 it was moved to its current historical site. Read more about the original home HERE. The new ultra modern home at 805 Sherman features three levels of living, with an ADU unit behind the house. The style of the containers and plants follow the contemporary design. Bright vibrant tones of orange, lime and gold were used in the creation of the outdoor pots on the street level. All exterior containers are frost proof.

Front Door: Two oversized black vases add interest at the front door. The larger of the two pots is filled with Yucca Gloriosa Variegata, (also known as Spanish Dagger)—this is a variety of Yucca that will thrive in zones 6-11. The smaller of the vases is filled with Bowles Golden Sedge, and both vases are highlighted with ornamental chili’s. Did you know ornamental chilis are edible? However, they’re not nearly as tasty as those garden varieties!

First Floor Interior Staircase Alcove: Interior designer Amy Scott of CDA sourced some amazing containers that fit like a dream under the floating staircase. Underneath the stairs, you can see there is a Monstera in the largest pot, and an Aloe in the smaller pot. The lighting design on the wall under the staircase is fantastic and compliments the greenery perfectly. You can see more of Amy’s work at www.ajoscottdesign.com.

West Terrace: Two large cubes brim with bright orange Crocosmia, Blonde Ambition Grass, colorful Sedums and Coleus.

Southeast Corner: A tall black cube container is exploding with bright orange Crocosmia.

Other plants inside the home include a tall willowy Dracaena Marginata on the second floor in the living space, and a Dracaena Janet Craig on the staircase landing in the entry to the ADU unit near the garage.

New Leaf Nursery created not only all the custom planters for this home, but also designed and executed the landscape, as well as the building of the stunning wall that surrounds the front terrace of this show stopping home. The homeowner loves Grasses, Hydrangea, Roses, and Lavender, which inspired the New Leaf Design Team.

Sun King Aralia plants are set at either side of the steps leading to the front door in rich bronze pots; these pots, as well as all other pots on this property are frost resistant. Alberta Spruce Topiary are set in coordinating bronze pots. Four large, off-white ceramic ‘belly pots’ are set between the stone pillars on the upper terrace, and are filled with ‘Blonde Ambition’ grass, Folgate Lavender and ‘Frosted Fire’ Sedum.

On the dining table are a pair of pots, one filled with purple Salvia, and the other with Folgate lavender.

In the first image, you can see White Guara, Blonde Ambition Grass and purple Salvia set in large white rimmed pots, anchoring the front corners of the lower terrace. The next two images show a detailed picture of the dining table and upper terrace of the home.

The top three images show a pot filled with Folgate Lavender, along with more detailed shots of the home.

This beautiful pergola was built by The Gazebo Guys. His work can be seen at New Leaf Nursery and more can be found at https://gazeboguys.com.  The design team at New Leaf nursery added large pots on two corners, filled with a white flower chocolate vine, a European Ostrich Fern, Japanese forest grass, and a ‘Bowles Golden’ Sedge. Hanging from the interior of the frame of the pergola are three artistic plant hangers—one filled with Dutchman’s pipe vine, one with variegated Porcelain Vine ‘Elegans’, and the third with Boston Ivy ‘Green Showers’.
